About Bestselect
For 25 years, Bestselect has united 15 Flemish ornamental tree nurseries as a cooperative with the same mission: to let as many people as possible enjoy beautiful tree and plant varieties.
How exactly do we do that? Well, we are fully committed to innovation and research projects within the ornamental tree nursery to create a wider range of fresh, new and sustainable species and cultivars.
In cooperation with ILVO (Institute for Agricultural, Fisheries and Food Research), we try to develop cultivars that are ever stronger, more disease-resistant and easy to maintain.
Today, Bestselect has 25 cultivars on the market and more are being added all the time. You will always recognise them by their uniform label!

Meet our growers
Piero Vandeputte
A unique evolution
In Wielsbeke, Johan Vandeputte and his wife Rosa started growing plants in the open ground in 1972. Over the years, the company evolved into what makes it so unique today: growing plants in P9 – 9 cm plastic pots – as starting material for growers. When their son Piero joined them in the early 1990s, they decided to split up the business. Cuttings are taken in Wielsbeke and transplanting in P9s is done in the new, second company in Deerlijk. In 2004, Vandeputte Belgium became one company again, divided over two locations, under the leadership of Piero.

Hans De Neve
For a garden with character
In 1988, Hans De Neve did what he never intended to do. He became a tree nurseryman. Just like his father and grandfather. Grandpa De Neve started between the two world wars with vegetables and tobacco plants, two important foodstuffs. After the war, his father and brother also joined the company, but Hans did not. He saw how hard it was. But his love for plants won out. And it looked like a fourth generation of tree nurserymen would follow.

Geert Coppens
With his head among the roses
Growing up between his father's roses, Geert quickly gets the taste, or rather, smell. As a young guy he joins the business. At first he focuses on packaged roses and shrubs in small pots. Then he switches to container cultivation and open ground and expands to about 10 hectares.

Lucas De Nolf
A family tree of breeders
Tree nursery Willy De Nolf is, to put it mildly, a family affair. Of the family, only one scion of four is not in the business. Lucas started with his brother in 2012. In 2018, he becomes chairman of Bestselect.
