The spring season
During the spring season, garden contractor Stefan Haerinck and his team made the makeover project 'our garden' completely spring-ready. They started by preparing the soil. Think: digging, spading, edging and fertilizing. The last step of the garden construction: planting the cultivars. Discover how they went about it, which Bestselect cultivars are the most popular, but also why the Ligustrum Massif is the perfect all-round shrub.
Spring maintenance in your garden
What can you do yourself to make your garden completely spring-ready? Stefan: 'You can certainly start 'cleaning up' the plants yourself. They come out of the winter and will start growing well as soon as the days get warmer.' Concretely, you can do this:
Removing weeds
Removing weeds . Pick up old leaves and remove dead plants. Also remove the entire root of the weed by hand or with a weed puller. The spring sun can make weeds grow quickly and they also form seeds or flowers faster.
Pruning
Pruning . By trimming your hedges and pruning old branches from your shrubs or trees, you give your plants a boost and promote growth. This will give you a bigger and fuller bloom.
Fertilize the garden
Fertilize the garden . After the first mowing, you can fertilize your lawn. Use organic fertilizers from the garden center. Tip: Wait until just before a rain shower to fertilize your lawn, so the fertilizer is absorbed faster.
