Buddleja Argus White
The Buddleja ARGUS® White is a new cultivar within the Buddleja family. This butterfly bush has beautiful white flowers. The most innovative and unique thing is that this Buddleja hardly produces seeds, and therefore no longer spreads. In other words, it is a non-invasive hybrid that will not spread undesirably in the ornamental garden or planting. This white variety is particularly compact and therefore also suitable for smaller city gardens. Just like the existing Buddleja species, the Buddleja ARGUS attracts butterflies. In this way, they bring life to the garden and form an ideal source of diversity.
Plant height up to 90cm.
General info
Buddleja ARGUS® White has great ornamental value because of its beautiful shape, inflorescence and leaf colour, especially as an accent plant in public green spaces and gardens. This cultivar flowers abundantly from July to October. Buddleja ARGUS® White desires a moderately nutrient-rich, dry to moist, sandy soil in a sunny spot. ARGUS® tolerates summer heat fairly well, provided the location is sufficiently moist. It combines well with woodland edge and border plants, provided it is not planted too close to them. ARGUS, the environmental arm of KBC and Cera, gave its name to Buddleja ARGUS® on 4 August 2011 in anticipation of a campaign for more biodiversity in the garden. Given the social importance of biodiversity and the action envisaged by ARGUS with substantive framing, ILVO and Bestselect were happy to christen the two new cultivars Buddleja ARGUS®.
Maintenance
The plant must be pruned every year in springtime, after the last frosty spell. It is possible to cut the plant back to minimum 15 cm or maximum 40 cm above ground level (knee-height), which implies that a small part of the branches of the previous summer is not touched. These dormant buds will produce new shoots.
